Bringing a puppy home is a very special moment, but it’s also a big change for both the puppy and the family. Everything is new for them: smells, sounds, people… That’s why it’s so important to support them during this transition and follow a few simple guidelines to help them feel safe from day one.

Getting Ready Before They Arrive

Before your puppy arrives, it’s important to have everything prepared. This will make the transition much smoother and help avoid unnecessary stress.

Some essentials you should have ready:

  • A quiet, comfortable place where they can rest

  • Food and water bowls (stainless steel is best for hygiene)

  • Age-appropriate toys

  • Puppy pads or a designated toilet area

  • Basic grooming products suitable for puppies

The more prepared you are, the more comfortable your puppy will feel.

Feeding: A Key Point

One of the most common mistakes is changing your puppy’s food as soon as they arrive home. This can lead to digestive issues such as diarrhea or discomfort.

It’s best to continue feeding the same food they’ve been eating up to that point. This helps avoid unnecessary stress on their digestive system.

In our case, we use Royal Canin Starter, a formula specifically designed for puppies in their early stages. It’s typically used until around 3 months of age. After that, you can gradually introduce Royal Canin Puppy, which is tailored to support their growth.

If you decide to change their food later on, always do it gradually.

Water and Routine

Fresh, clean water should always be available. In areas with hard water, offering bottled water can be a good option.

It’s also important to start establishing routines early on: regular feeding times, rest, and play. This helps your puppy adjust more quickly and understand their daily rhythm.

The First Days at Home

During the first few days, it’s completely normal for your puppy to feel a bit confused. They just need time to adjust.

A few helpful tips:

  • Keep the environment calm

  • Avoid too many visitors or overstimulation

  • Let them explore at their own pace

  • Spend time with them, but don’t overwhelm them

Little by little, they’ll gain confidence and start to feel at home.
